Sawtelle Stories Forum 11 – Part 1 of 2 – Sawtelle Japantown Association

At this forum, George Izumi and Randy Sakamoto spoke about Sawtelle’s history.

George Izumi was a Master Baker and founder of the famous Grace’s Pastries. George grew up in Sawtelle and was in in Manzanar during World War II.

Randy Sakamoto shared the history of his grandfather, Gisuke Sakamoto, through the many photographs and memorabilia that he inherited. Randy’s grandfather was instrumental in establishing the Japanese Institute of Sawtelle and the West Los Angeles United Methodist Church.
